Rose was a young spoken word artist on the rise. She’d won a few awards and was headed to LA to make her mark on the world, but needed an inexpensive yet distinctive site that could be launched before an impending tour for her first book.
Shoreline Fire Department
The Shoreline Fire Department needed some updates on an HTML site. They weren’t ready for a rebuild — they just needed to get some information updated and add some ballot measure tools. I hand-coded the updates, and built them a lookup tool so voters could evaluate the effect of a change to tax calculations. The project was finished on schedule and under budget, and the ballot measure passed.
Deep coding.
PPRC needed someone to merge their extensive ColdFusion content into an updated WordPress based web site. It was an interesting project, fusing a legacy site’s functionality that they did not have the budget to reprogram into a more modern front end with WordPress’s facility for ease of updating.
Later PPRC hired me to create a custom plug-in that runs their Greening Sports program, which connects sports facilities with local resources to help them become more environmentally friendly. The final product is a page where a facility can select the area(s) of interest and a list of matching resources from their metro area will be displayed. New or updated resources can be uploaded via spreadsheet on the backend, reducing a potentially tedious task, as there are many hundreds of entries across dozens of metro areas.
After several developers were unable to assist us with our website platform change, we received a recommendation for Shasta. Not only was she up for the challenge, she proved exceptional not only at coding, but also at anticipating issues down the line and recommending courses of action to avoid future entanglements. Shasta is a dedicated, highly intelligent person with great vision and a sense of humor. She responds quickly during crises of our own making and resolves problems deftly. We continue to rely on her expertise for coding work and her counsel for other web issues. I unreservedly and highly recommend Shasta if you need someone who is knowledgeable, talented, friendly and budget-conscious. We are delighted with her work. – Ken Grimm
Flashy design without the (Adobe) Flash
This client majored in art before she moved to neuropsychology as a career. She wanted a site that was beautiful, first and foremost, and provided sites from art museums and architecture firms as examples of what she loved. As someone who works primarily as an expert witness in court cases, however, she needed a lot more content … and fewer layers between the visitor and the information.
We tried and discarded more than a dozen designs before she fell in love with the neural image displayed here. That image informed the rest of the design, a clean black and blue adaptation of a WordPress framework called Genesis. The site itself was together in less than a week, once the difficult design decisions were completed.
